DESIGN24

The good folks at Design24 just released a very limited (only 10) print that I designed for their show last Saturday.  This print is a magnified page out of my sketchbook which gave it a grainy textured look. Some of you asked me how to get your hands on one so here ya go! The print can be seen and purchased on their blog HERE. There are other artist who have prints for sale on the site as well so check it out and don't sleep on this.

HEY LADIES!

As some of you may know by now I have been working on a jewelry line for the past year. It has taken some time to get everything right but the response has been great to all of you showing interest. While I still have to perfect a ton of things I figured I would share with you all the process. Im not sure if I will be selling these samples before the release date but you will see them around as I have been giving them to the lady friends I have. Getting feedback on what to fix or color suggesting is what its all about and I thank you all for the help. If you are interested in supporting this project please contact me via email and I will let you know when they will be released. If you are a person who makes jewelry or know somebody who can help me out please contact me as I am looking around for a source. Follow me on FB or Instagram @aarondelacruz to see more process pics. Click on the image below for a nice surprise.

EDUMACTION

If you have time to kill take a few minutes (or many more) out of your day to check this list out. Over all Complex did a good job at creating this list (must have been hard as hell). Definitely some good brain food to munch on here. Oh yea and CONGRATS to Patrick Martinez for making the list you deserve it homie.

DELA SHOP

Okay well thanks to Instagram and everyone else who has been asking how they can purchase my work (I really, really appreciate the encouragement) I have made an attempt to create a shop section on my site which you can visit HERE. I will only have a few pieces listed for now just to see how it goes and build from there but check in from time to time as I will update often. I usually announce news to my fans first so if you are not on my mailing list and would like to be added please click on the E.MAIL section to do so. More to come very soon and wish me luck!

DLC CRIBS

In this episode of DLC cribs we visit the home of Adam and Yvonne of San Francisco where I just finished painting their hallway.  This wall project has been in the making for the past two years now and I honestly think that the moment for it to finally happen was timed just right (congratulations you two!). Adam an industrial designer for IDEO who has helped create many things we use on a daily basis (tic-tac containers being one of them) is aslo apart of IDEO.ORG a new non profit that currently works in other countries helping out the less fortunate. Yvonne, a multi talented artist specializing in wood furniture creates some of the higest quality stools using no screws or metal. Together they run a design company called NewFactory and have an awesome garden (now with chickens!) in their backyard. For some random reason I watched the Charles and Ray Eames movie last night and realized that Adam and Yvonne share the same chemistry and passion for design and nature as the Eames's. It's a great feeling when people let you paint whatever you want with no questions asked (thank you), I remember doing commission projects and telling myself "I would never do another commission piece in my life" after dealing with certain jerks, but you live and you learn right?

HMMMMMM........ AH!

While at Pow Wow I was running around Honolulu with no sense of direction and it felt great, all I knew was I wanted to paint and paint ALOT! While working on a piece with 123 Klan and Flying Fortress I was hanging off the top of a roof while painting and lucky for me the moment was captured by Brandon Shigeta with his photography ninja like skills. I didn't think twice of being up there or having my picture taken until I received an email from Brandon with the photo (below) attached. I like the photo alot because its taken from an angle Im not used to seeing myself in. Anyways, I sent the photo to my parents and this is what my Dad had to say (via email) after seeing the photo.

"You should see the big smile on my face. I love your enthusiasm, just be careful.

This brings to mind a story

In the day's of the Greeks,  Icarus learned how to fly high swooping in and out through the wind.
But eventually flew to close to the sun, destroying his wings and plummeted to earth.
Technology has created a new Icarus, one that can excel the life and time of the renaissance man.
Endure the atrocities of all mankind while watching the solar-flares interrupt technologies & melt our northern & southern ice caps.
Recall the light the burns twice as bright last half as long.

Oh but what a flight."

Thank you Dad for always showing me the right way to fly.

AVE MAG #3

Back from LA and taking a small break to share with you all some good news. The good people from Averevista Magazine in Mexico were nice enough to include me in their latest online editorial AVE MAG. I will be in Mexico later on this year and hope to meet the kind folks in person. The website is in Spanish but can be translated if need be (or you can just look at the pics as I would do). Keep spreading the word to the world and I will keep up on my end of the deal as well. You can check out the article by clicking HERE or on the pic below.

WOESERS!

I just returned from a morning trip to San Jose which by now is becoming a weekly habit for all the right reasons. Getting away to San Jose is actually comforting to me as it somehow reminds me of my home town Fresno (sorry if I offend anyone from SJ) with the city layout and friends I have there that talk and joke like the ones I had back in my Fresno days. Today's visit was specifically planned to visit an artist I have known through mutual friends for over a year now by the name of Aaron "WOES" Martin. We had a chance to chill and paint together in Hawaii during Pow Wow and he is currently here for his solo show at Cukui. Although my visit was brief it was great to seeing the new works Aaron will have on display and discuss each others plans for the year (this dude is going to go big!). If you live in the area please attend the show tonight and support in any way possible (or tell a friend to go).

FOLLOW DON'T LEAD

I was just tipped by Sam Rodriguez that apparently I am someone to follow on isntagram according to Complex Magazine??? Anyways if you happen to like photos and very little words (like me) fallow me on instagram (aarondelacruz). Complex also suggests other artist to follow who I agree with in terms of great photos and funny one liners. You can read the article HERE.
